How do I know if I'm in a war with food?

Our relationships with food can be like living on a pendulum. When we are at war with food, we find ourselves swinging wildly back and forth from “binging” on one extreme, to “starving” on the other. Both extremes are very painful…even life-threatening to body, mind, and spirit.

  • Do you feel a need to do much of your eating in secret?
  • Are you constantly thinking about what you “should” eat, “shouldn’t” eat, or beating yourself up for what you “shouldn’t have” eaten?
  • Have you missed out on a large portion of your life because your body is here, but your mind is always thinking about food?
  • Do you struggle with self-hatred? Do you believe you would feel better about yourself if only your body were different?
  • Do you believe you’re “good” if you eat a salad, and “bad” if you have a cookie?
If your answer is “yes” to any of these questions, then your relationship with food is not what it was intended to be. There is greater peace and happiness out there for you!

what is being at peace with food?

The only place a pendulum finds rest is when the source of energy is removed and it is allowed to rest in the middle. Once we work through the emotional and spiritual challenges that keep us living in the extremes, it takes surprisingly less energy to live in the natural state of listening for our bodies’ needs and meeting them.

Imagine:
  • Not thinking about food until you find you are hungry.
  • Losing the desire to eat when your body tells you it has had enough.
  • Choosing from an endless variety of foods.
  • Enjoying the food you eat.
  • Knowing you can eat at any restaurant, accept any dinner invitation, without fear of what will be on the menu.
  • Having no desire to hide your eating.
  • Not being obsessed with, or afraid of, any scales.
  • Recognizing your worth, regardless of your body shape or size.
  • Having your thoughts and energy freed up to move toward your other goals to do, have, or be more.
  • Truly loving and appreciating this body God gave you.
  • Experiencing the peace you thought would come when you finally reached your “ideal weight”.
If you are tired of the diet-binge pendulum, I invite you to join me in my From Food to Faith program. This is not a diet or drug. There is no food to buy or scales with which to measure. This is a program to help you return to a place where food becomes your friend, and you remember who you are, and Whose you are.
